Analogue experiments
Some analog experiments are performed injecting various fluids (air or silicone oil) inside gelatin in order to model magma injection inside the Earth’s crust. Experiments are performed either at GFZ (the Bubble Lab) or at ISTerre, Chambéry (experimental lab).
Elastic properties of the gelatin are quantified. The fluid trajectory and velocity of propagation is recorded by 3 cameras as shown here:
